Students are taught in group classes or in private
lessons by the sifu or a qualified instructor. Learning is based
on memorization of the various forms and on practice, which enables
students to understand and perfect the various movements.
Some more specialized styles are taught only in private lessons
because a certain level of learning is required before they can
be taken
up.
All students advance at their own pace, with no race for belts
and no competition. The goal is to master an art and fully
benefit from
it. A practitioner becomes an honour
student after a minimum of 2 years
of practice. The title of disciple is awarded in recognition of a
student’s tenacity, effort and personal progress after 10 years
of practice. |
